Gala dinner

Castello a Mare is an ancient fortress that guarded the entrance to the port at Palermo in La Cala. Extensive remains are visible, some of which are open to the public.

There is a Norman keep, a fortified gate or entrance, and remains of a sophisticated Renaissance star-shaped defence.

A precious pearl set inside the archaeological site of the Castello a mare in Palermo, the Castello a mare Restaurant is not only a place where to eat a good meal, but a place of emotions, scents and colors placed in an exceptional setting that make it magical and exciting: the deep blue of the sky and sea Palermo, the white sails of the boats in the cove, the yellow of the tuff on which stands the ruins of the ancient castle in the sea and the fortress walls that once surrounded him; a magical place that exudes history and culture in the heart of the beautiful maritime Palermo.

A stone's throw from the historic center, five minutes from tourist points and cultural interests of the city, the Castello a mare Restaurant enjoys a privileged position. An exceptional location so, where every day the dishes of traditional Sicilian cuisine are made, elegantly and expertly revisited by chef Natale Giunta.

Lungo il Cassaro

The tour will start from the Teatro Massimo. It is the biggest opera house in Italy and the third largest in Europe after the Opéra National in Paris and the Staatsoper in Vienna.
We will reach the Quattro Canti along via Maqueda. The Quattro Canti is an octagonal square with a Baroque layout at the crossing of the two principal streets in Palermo, the via Maqueda and the Cassaro, now called Corso Vittorio Emanuele.

We will then head the Piazza Pretoria adorned with the imposing fountain called "Fontana della Vergogna" and the adjacent Piazza Bellini, overlooked by the churches of Santa Maria dell'Ammiraglio (even called "La Martorana"), the church of San Cataldo, the Bellini Theater, the rear façade of Palazzo Pretorio and the splendid church of Santa Caterina d'Alessandria. Along the "Cassaro", we will reach many artisan shops and noble palaces and we will also reach the Norman Cathedral where Frederick II of Swabia is buried. Our tour will end with a visit to the Cappella Palatina which is located inside the Palazzo dei Normanni.

Palazzo dei Normanni was residence for the kings of the Kingdom of Sicily and imperial seat with Frederick II and Corrado IV. Now is seat of the historical Sicilian Parliament.

The town of Cefalù

From Piazza Indipendenza we will leave for the medieval citadel of Cefalù which rises along a splendid beach at the foot of a suggestive mountain (the Rocca di Cefalù).

The old town of Cefalù has a typically medieval structure, characterized by narrow streets, paved with the pebbles of the beach and the limestone of the Rocca. In the old town you can find the famous Norman Cathedral, which has been UNESCO heritage site since 2015.
The Cathedral was built from 1131 and the exterior is in the typical Romanesque style of northern Europe enriched by Arab influences with a facade framed by two mighty Norman towers with double lancet windows and single lancet windows.

After visiting the Cathedral, the tour continues with the medieval washhouse, one of the most particular and characteristic places of the small seaside village of Cefalù. Before coming back to Palermo, you can go for a refreshing swim in the sea of Cefalù.
